eBooks & digital

Books that fit in a pocket and never go out of print.

A digital edition costs nothing to keep in stock, reaches a reader in Coimbatore and one in Canada at the same moment, and outlives the print run. We publish digital alongside print for new titles, and digitise older ones that deserve to stay readable.

Formats

Built for the book, not a template.

A poetry collection that reflows badly is a ruined poetry collection. We pick the format from the book, then test it on real devices before it goes out.

EPUB (reflowable)

Text reflows to any screen size. The right default for fiction, poetry and non-fiction prose.

Fixed-layout EPUB

For children’s picture books, cookery, photography and anything where the page design is the point.

Print-ready PDF

A faithful digital copy of the printed edition, for academic and reference titles.

Accessible editions

Proper heading structure, alt text and reading order so screen readers can work with the book.

Digitisation

Bringing older books back.

A great deal of Indian writing — particularly in Tamil and other regional languages — exists only as print, in editions that sold out decades ago. Digitising it is slow, careful work, and it is some of the most worthwhile work we do.

Scanning

Physical copies scanned at print resolution, including out-of-print and single-copy editions.

OCR & correction

Text recognised and then proofread by a human — Tamil and Indic scripts included, where raw OCR is rarely enough.

Reconstruction

Damaged pages, broken type and missing sections rebuilt so the digital edition reads cleanly.

Re-typesetting

The book set afresh rather than photographed, so it is searchable, selectable and resizable.

Scripts & typesetting

Indic scripts, set properly.

Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Devanagari all have typesetting requirements that generic ebook conversion tools handle badly — ligatures collapse, line breaking goes wrong, fonts get substituted for something unreadable. We embed the right fonts and check the output character by character.
